LOUISVILLE -- State troopers have determined a cause of death for the Massena man who died after being struck by an SUV while riding his bike on Tuesday.
Troopers say Ricky J. Brainard, 58, died of multiple skull fractures and a brain contusion.
He was bicycling at around 3 p.m. Monday when he was struck by a Toyota Rav 4 operated by Cindy S. Massey, 56, of Watertown.
The investigation at the scene revealed that Brainard was riding a bicycle westbound on the shoulder of state Route 37. He made a left turn to enter the driveway of a residence and was struck by the SUV that was traveling west on state Route 37, ejecting him from the bike, troopers said.
He was taken by Massena Rescue to Massena Memorial Hospital, then was air lifted to the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington, Vermont, with a skull fracture and cerebral hematoma, where he died the same day.
This accident is still under investigation.
