POTSDAM – Ice accumulation from freezing rain and sleet across St. Lawrence County was making travel difficult on the region’s roads late Monday and the conditions are continuing into the evening.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory cautioning drivers across Northern New York of up to 2 inches of snow and a quarter inch of ice accumulation. The advisory was expected to remain until 7 a.m. Tuesday.
Drivers should be prepared for reduced visibilities at times, said the weather service. Travelers can expect slippery roads and limited visibilities.
The National Weather Service said drivers should use caution when navigating along the roads and allow extra time for travel.
The forecast calls for freezing rain and sleet until 1 a.m. tomorrow morning, switching to rain by 2 a.m.
Temperatures are supposed to rise to around 36 by 4 a.m. with 100 percent chance of precipitation tonight continuing into Tuesday.
