POTSDAM -- Clarkson University hosts a semifinal round of the New York Business Plan Competition (NYBPC) Friday.
The competition will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Student Center.
Students from participating schools Clarkson University, St. Lawrence University, SUNY Plattsburgh and Alexandria Central High School will be vying for a spot at the state competition on April 29 in Albany.
The six categories for business plans are Information Technology/Software, Biotechnology/Healthcare, Energy/Sustainability, Nanotechnology/Advanced Technology, and Social Entrepreneurship/Non-Profit and Products/Services.
Along with monetary prizes, the top two winners in each category will advance to the finals. Last year, five Clarkson teams won at the state competition.
Established in 2010, the NYBPC has awarded more than $800,000 in cash and prizes during the first four years of the competition and is now one of the largest collegiate competitions in the country.
