POTSDAM -- Clarkson students will be going door to door Sept. 17 handing out free compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) to Potsdam community members.
Their goal is to educate the public about CFLs so that people will make informed decisions when purchasing light bulbs in the future.
Clarkson Sustainable Synergy estimates that if just 1,000 incandescent light bulbs in peoples’ homes are replaced with CFLs, they would save 450,000 kilowattt-hours over their lifetime, reduce CO2 emission by 690,000 pounds, and save the community over $60,000 dollars on electricity.
Clarkson Sustainable Synergy is a student-run club whose mission is educating and improving energy usage on campus and in the community. Money was raised through donations from local businesses, fundraisers, and the Clarkson University Student Association, and bulbs were purchased through Clarkson facilities at cost.
