POTSDAM -- Over $24,000 was generated for Helping Hands of Potsdam at this year’s Cindy Talcott Memorial Golf Tournament at the Potsdam Town and Country Club.
The combined efforts and support of 92 tournament sponsors, 125 golfers, scores of prize donors, contributors of refreshments, volunteers, the staff at the country club and the tournament committee resulted in a record breaking year for the eighth annual tournament.
The tournament is named for Cindy Talcott, pastor of the Church of the Nazarene, who founded Helping Hands, through which many in need in the community are afforded access to food, heat, furniture, utilities, guidance and prayer.
Helping Hands serves the eastern St. Lawrence County communities of Brasher, Colton, Hopkinton, Lawrence, Madrid, Nicholville, Norfolk, Norwood, Pierrepont, Potsdam, Stockholm and South Colton.
In addition to the revenue generated from this event, over 500 non-perishable food items were donated by golfers and non-golfers alike on the day of the tournament, all of which will be added to the food pantry at Helping Hands.
The Tournament Committee – Chair Sandy Demarest, along with Bill and Lorraine Ford, Claire LaGarry, Joyce Lalonde, Mary Jo James, Suzanne Smith and Laura Stevenson – thanked everyone who helped make the event a success.
“Our committee has been working on this tournament for a year and the outpour of support from the community has been just amazing, said Demarest “We could not have realized this kind of success without everyone involved. We are so grateful.”
