This drawing is a representation of what Little River School has in mind for an addition.
CANTON – The alternative Little River Community School is planning a two-story addition to their structure along the Canton-Russell Road.
School Director Steven Molnar said the school's student population jumped nearly 50 percent from 2010-11 to 2011-12, to 34 last school year, according to the school's spring newsletter.
The addition will be to provide more space for existing students and add new students, and increase staff.
Little River Community School is an alternative, private school for students grades K-9 located 5 miles south of Canton.
The school envisions a 24- by 30-foot addition with two floors, adding one classroom, a large multipurpose room for large group activities, meetings and performances, and two small rooms for small group and one-on-one activities, as described in the newsletter.
To build and equip the addition would cost $98,930, including heaters, lights, safety equipment and furniture, according to the estimate in the newsletter.
Little River Community School expanded from a one-room schoolhouse into a three-room schoolhouse in 2001.
The school is five miles south of Canton at 1227 CR 25, on the Canton-Russell Road.
