CANTON -- The board of directors at Canton Day Care Center has launched a fundraising challenge to the local community, inspired by the season of holiday giving, said a press release from the organization.
Through Dec. 31, any donations made to Canton Day Care Center will be matched dollar for dollar, up to a maximum of $20,000, by the Cloudsplitter Foundation, whose mission is dedicated to improving the future for the flora, fauna, communities, and people of the Adirondacks.
The funds will go toward the Center’s capital campaign, which is focused on fully renovating the second floor of its building at 205 State Street Rd.
The Center was able to complete a baseline renovation of its upstairs space in August 2018 that allowed its school age program to be relocated back onsite this past summer. The school age program had been located at Canton Central School since Summer 2017 to repurpose existing finished space downstairs at the State Street Road building for an increased need for toddler care.
The work over the summer was funded by donations from a similar matching grant challenge in the spring put on by the Thompson-Weatherup Family Charitable Foundation, a component fund of the Northern New York Community Foundation.
“Demand for quality childcare in the Canton community has not abated since we originally started our plans for renovating the upstairs space,” said Marie Loson, Canton Day Care Center fundraising chairperson.
