CANTON -- A two-year old child drowned Tuesday in a creek near his residence at 6258 U.S. Highway 11.
Around 1:15 p.m. state police responded to a report of a 2-year-old male child, Zephaniah Stewart, who was missing, for approximately 30 minutes.
When troopers arrived on scene the child had just been located unresponsive in a creek near his home.
First responders applied an automated edxternal defibrillator (AED) and Stewart was then transported to Canton-Potsdam Hospital by Canton Rescue.
He was then transported to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse by LifeFlite, where the child later succumbed to his injuries, officers said.
New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Canton are investigating.
The cause and manner of death is pending an autopsy, police said.
