Yale showed why it has spent the majority of the season in the top three nationally in game three of its quarterfinal series with St. Lawrence on Sunday night, putting on a dominating performance in a 4-0 win which sends the Bulldogs to the ECAC semifinals in Atlantic City next weekend and ends the Saint season.The Saints finish the year with a 13-22-5 overall record while Yale will take a 25-6-1 mark into the semifinals.

 "We made a lot of strides with a young team this season," said Saint coach Joe Marsh. "We had a good run in the playoffs, but Yale's experience showed this weekend. I think there is a lot there we can build on down the road. You hate to see the season end, particularly for the seniors, but they gave it a good battle."

The first period was a special teams contest and the Saints didn't fare well as Yale went two-for-two with its power play and the Saints were scoreless in four tries. Overall Yale finished two for nine on the power play while the Saints were scoreless in seven opportunities and did not manage a lot of shots in its seven chances.

Yale converted on the first penalty call of the game as Chris Cahill picked up a loose puck right in front of Saint goalie Matt Weninger after Weninger made a good save on a one-timer by Brian O'Neill. Cahill scored his first point of the series and his 13th of the year at 2:41, 1:18 into the power play chance to give Yale the early lead.  The Bulldogs made it a 2-0 game on their second man advantage as O'Neill took a pass from Andrew Miller, cut to the goal and put a shot back past Weninger for his 18th of the season and first of the quarterfinal series at 7:24 of the first.

The Saints had a trio of power play chances in the final six minutes of the first period, but struggled to get the power play untracked, getting just four shots with the man advantage despite four first period opportunities.

Yale doubled its lead in a dominating second period performance, allowing the Saints just four shots on goal. Kevin Limbert made it a 3-0 game 4:44 into the period as the Saints made a coverage mistake and Limbert was all alone for his second goal of the weekend with Denny Kearney and Broc Little assisting. Little, who had four assists in the first two games of the series, scored his first goal  of the weekend just 1:04 later when he took a pass from Limbert and fired a hard shot on goal which Weninger got a blocker on. The puck bounced off Weninger's blocker, went high into the air and tumbled over the Saint goalie's shoulder and into the net for the 4-0 lead.

The lone good scoring chance of the period  for the Saints came off the stick of Kyle Essery shorthanded and it was the first shot of the period for the Saints 7:45 in. Weninger had 18 saves in the second while Rondeau had only the stop on Essery as a challenge among four total shots.

Weninger finished with 38 saves in yet another strong playoff performance for the Saints while Rondeau finished with 21 saves for the shutout.
