(Canton, N.Y.)- SUNY Canton will host the 3rd Annual Terry Martin / Pride’s Corner Ice Hockey Tournament this Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 20-21, at the Canton Pavilion.

The Roos, ranked 20th in the latest ACHA national polls, will face Oswego State at 5 p.m. on Saturday and John Carroll University will face Cornell University in the other first-round game at 8 p.m. The consolation game is on Sunday at noon and the championship game at 3 p.m.

The tournament was created by current men’s ice hockey coach Eric McCambly as a way of honoring longtime hockey coach Terry Martin.

Martin guided the men’s ice hockey program for 25 years. He began in 1974 and concluded his illustrious career in 1999 compiling a record of 527-211-29. He held a 102-11-8 mark in his final four seasons and his teams won 12 national championships throughout his career. Martin also served as men’s athletic director, women’s soccer coach, men’s lacrosse coach and taught in the physical education department at various points while at SUNY Canton.

He was the 2009 recipient of the American Hockey Coaches Association’s prestigious John “Snooks” Kelley Founders Award, recognizing the effect Martin had on the collegiate sport.

SUNY Canton won the inaugural tournament in 2008 beating the University of New England 5-4 on a last-second goal in overtime. The Roos fell to John Carroll University 4-3 in the first game of last year’s tournament but rebounded to win the consolation game beating Norwich University 8-1.

Prior to the games there will be several events on and off campus. There will be tours of the new Convocation, Athletic and Recreation Center from 12-2 p.m. and a pregame reception at Sergi’s Banquet Hall, 31 Main Street from 2-4 p.m. To RSVP for either event please call the SUNY Canton Alumni Office at 1-800-811-6727 or alumni@canton.edu by Wednesday, Nov. 17. The tours of the CARC will leave from French Hall on SUNY Canton’s campus.
