(Fort Kent, Maine)- The SUNY Canton men’s basketball team raced out to an 18-point halftime lead en route to a 75-66 win over the University of Maine at Fort Kent Sunday afternoon in Northern Maine.
The Roos (6-13) shot a blistering 65 percent from the floor in the first 20 minutes, converting 17 of 26 field goal attempts as they built a 44-26 advantage. Fort Kent clawed their way back in the second half outscoring the Roos by nine points, but that strong first half cushion was enough for SUNY Canton to earn the victory and snap a four-game slide.
Junior Khalid Vaughn (New York, N.Y.) paced the Roos offensive attack with 15 points, five rebounds and five assists. Senior Ryan Lamica (Constable, N.Y.) totaled 14 points, five rebound and three steals. Sophomore Xzavier Fisher (Plymouth, Pa.) also reached double figures with 13 points and seven boards. Sophomore Tyler Ellison (New York, N.Y.) and freshman Michael Pulci (Staten Island, N.Y.) added nine points apiece.
Adam Bouchard and Yoshives Belizaire both tossed in 20 points to lead Fort Kent (1-18).
The Roos are off until next Saturday, Feb. 2 when they take on the College of St. Joseph at 2 p.m. at Roos House.
