St. Lawrence University junior Alanna Piroli scored five goals and the Saints used a 13-goal run to close the first half en route to an 18-5 win for the Saints women's lacrosse team over UMass-Dartmouth in West Palm Beach, FL on Thursday.
The victory moved St. Lawrence to 1-2 on the season, while UMass-Dartmouth falls to 0-2.
The Scarlet and Brown put on a dominant performance in the first half, outshooting the Corsairs by a 29-2 margin. UMass-Dartmouth also committed 17 first half turnovers which led to a 14-1 deficit. The two teams each scored four goals in the second half to bring the score to its final of 18-5.
Piroli scored all five of her goals in the first half, while nine of her teammates chipped in goals as well. Seniors Kaitlyn Fahsel, Kim Morse and Kim Cooper, juniors Margie Bailey and Paige Powell, sophomores Blythe Crasto, Stephanie O'Rourke and Johanna Kelley and first-year student Abigail Horan all added one goal each to build the 14-1 advantage.
Senior captain Hannah Corkery scored her first collegiate goal in the second half, as did rookies Kate Higgins (2) and Carly VanTassel. Senior captain Anna Marchand made three saves in net in 51:38, while rookie Frances McNierney made her first collegiate save and did not allow a goal in 8:22 of action.
St. Lawrence will wrap up its spring trip to West Palm Beach tomorrow, Friday, March 18 when the Saints take on Connecticut College at 11:00am.
