Houghton, NY – Tressa Goolden (Canton, NY) and Robyn Carroll (Bowmanville, ON) each scored five times as the SUNY Canton women's lacrosse team routed host Houghton College, 19-6, Friday evening.
Hannah Christiansen (Lake View, NY) opened the scoring 50 seconds in off a pass from Keeley Rice (Potsdam, NY). Thirty seconds later Christiansen assisted Carroll for a score. The teams swapped two goals each as Rice and Brooke Knight (Madrird, NY) beat the Highlander goalie. Houghton added another score to get within 4-3.
Over the final 16:17 of the first half the Roos outscored Houghton 9-1 to take a commanding 13-4 lead into intermission. SUNY Canton continued to pour it on after halftime as five different players scored unanswered goals. The visitors cruised to a 19-6 victory.
Along with five goals each from Carroll and Goolden Lora Ardoin (Houston, TX), Megan Poupore (Massena, NY) and Rice scored two goals. Carroll and Christiansen dished out two assists each. Joelle Percy (Black River, NY) led the Roos with five ground balls, while Christiansen picked up four to go with her team-high four caused turnovers.
Becca Kieffer (Lee Center, NY) turned aside six shots for the Roos, while Carly Congilosi made 11 saves for Houghton. The women's lacrosse team continues play Friday when it hosts SUNY Potsdam at 4:00 p.m.
