Buffalo, NY - A 55-point second half was an impressive scoring barrage for the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team, but that streak wasn't enough to overcome a 25-point deficit at the half as the Golden Knights fell to 22nd-ranked Medaille College, 93-82, Monday afternoon.
The Golden Knights, who fell to 3-4 overall, set a program record for most points in a losing effort by tossing in 82 against the Mavericks, who improved to 7-1 on the season.
Trailing 52-27 at halftime, Clarkson could only hope things would get better after the Mavericks shot 62.1 percent in the first 20 minutes. Fortunately, the Knights did not fold and poured in enough points that sometimes match a single-game output. Clarkson shot 53.1 percent in the second half, including seven 3-point field goals. Junior guard Carey Turner (Clifton Park, NY) led the Knights with 18 points, shooting 6-for-11 from the field and 6-for-9 from the free throw line. She also added six rebounds and five assists in the contest.
Junior Chrissy Scanlon (Queensbury, NY) added a near double-double with 17 points and nine rebounds, and Lauren Pluchino (Liverpool, NY) also produced a solid all-around game with 14 points, six rebounds, and three assists. Katie Goldberg (Stowe, VT) added in 12 points, all on 3-pointers, and Stacey Garcia (St. Albans, VT) scored eight points to go along with seven assists.
Bianca Smiley led Medaille with 24 points, shooting 9-for-13 from the floor. Joelle Pollack also scored 20 points, missing just two shots in 10 field goal attempts.
