Dow, Donnelly lift No. 16 Saints men's lax over Western New England

Senior captain Jordan Dow recorded four goals and sophomore Mike Donnelly netted a hat trick as the No. 16 St. Lawrence University men's lacrosse team combined to tally seven unanswered goals in the first half en route to a 13-5 win over Western New England on Thursday afternoon in Norfolk, Virginia.

Dow, who scored four goals also added an assist and picked up four ground balls for the Saints, while Donnelly also caused one turnover. Long-stick midfielder Sam Boehle scored two goals, when Conor Caffrey added one goal and two assists and Dan Wyman recorded one goal and assist for two points. Steven Peterson and Dan Robinson tallied one goal each. Robinson's goal served as his first collegiate goal for the Scarlet and Brown.

Wyman, Cal Hynson and Zachary Ettinghausen each recorded an assist in today's win. Liam Doherty went 9-for-21 in the faceoff circle and picked up a team-best six ground balls, while Sam Sweeney and Patrick Abad each caused two turnovers.

Donnelly scored the lone goal of the first frame for his sixth of the season. He also tallied his other two goals in the second quarter to put the Saints up 5-0 with 7:48 to play.

Wyman and Boehle each netted their first goals of the season to close out the first half of play and give St. Lawrence a 7-0 advantage. Dow, Peterson and Wyman also scored for the Saints in the second frame helping to build the unanswered lead.

Nicholas Beauchamp was the first to strike after the break, recording the Golden Bears first goal of the game. Ettinghausen fed Caffrey 23 seconds later for his 15th goal of the season before Beauchamp's responded one minute and ten seconds later for his second tally, bringing the score to 8-2.

Dow's two goals in the third quarter were split by a goal from Western New England's Nick Gamba. Boehle closed the third frame with an unassisted goal for his second of the game and the season with 1:35 remaining.

Robinson and Dow recorded both goals for the Saints in the fourth, while Jared Ward and Brendan Lyons each capitalized on man-up opportunities for the Golden Bears.

"I thought this was our most complete effort of the season so far," said head coach Mike Mahoney '93. "We had some nice offensive balance and we were solid on the defensive end as well. We also competed hard as a faceoff unit which got us going, particularly in the second quarter."

Beauchamp led the Golden Bears with two goals, while Gamba tallied one goal and two assists. Mitch Weiss grabbed a team-high eight ground balls and caused two turnovers, while Jack Seiter went 12-for-19 in the faceoff circle.

St. Lawrence held a 37-21 shot advantage and picked up 40 ground balls to Western New England's 27. Saints' goalkeeper Alex Terry made seven saves between the pipes for his fourth win of the season, while Steven Kerr recorded 11 saves in the loss for Western New England.

With the win, the Saints improved to 4-1 on the season, while the Golden Bears fell to 3-4.

St. Lawrence will wrap up its 2018 spring break trip at Bard before returning home to the North Country. The Saints will face off against the Raptors on Saturday, March 24th at the Dietz Stadium in Kingston, New York at 12 p.m. as the Bard turf field is currently undergoing reconstruction.
