Potsdam, NY – Off to its best start in nearly three decades, the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team remained unbeaten and untied thanks to a 3-1 win over The Sage Colleges on Sunday afternoon at Hantz Turf Field.

The Golden Knights moved to 5-0-0 overall with the win, their best beginning since the 1990 squad started off 7-0-0. Sage dropped to 0-4-0.

It didn't take long for Clarkson to get on the scoreboard as the Knights saw a familiar combination team up once again. Junior Aidan Subra dribbled the ball down near the end line, eluding defenders along the way, and once he got within about five yards of the post, he sent a pass back out to Henry Gomez. The junior then struck a hard groundball to the far post corner to put the Knights up 1-0 at 14:47.

That would be all Clarkson would get in the first half, though it wasn't for a lack for trying. Mack Walton's header at 21:45 off a direct kick went wide, a point-blank shot from Matt Adamou at 26:48 was corralled by the Gators' goalkeeper, and headers from James Homan (30:44) and Ben Root (43:52) went wide of their mark.

James Luganas had a good shot in the first minute of the second half for Sage, but Clarkson keeper Ian Roeloffs scooped up the grounder to keep the Gators off the board. From there, it was a quiet 20 minutes or so as the teams traded possession in the midfield.

In the 72nd minute, Aidan Subra was taken down in the box on the right side while on the run, providing the Knights with a penalty shot. John Furcick buried the penalty kick at 71:16 to put Clarkson up 2-0. However, that advantage would be short-lived, as the Gators were rewarded with a penalty kick just two minutes later when one of their players was hauled down on a header attempt off a corner kick chance. River Seybolt converted at 73:35 to pull Sage back within one, 2-1.

The Knights would regain their two-goal advantage eight minutes later. Furcick took a corner kick from the left side and the Gators nearly cleared the attempt, but the ball found the foot of Drew Lewis, who quickly tapped the ball into the net for his third score of the weekend, at 81:45.

Clarkson finished with 16-10 lead in shots and an overwhelming 14-2 lead in corner kicks. Roeloffs made two saves for the Knights while Lucas Bourdeau made one stop for the Gators.
