Where we choose to spend our money can have a big impact. Whenever you make taxable purchases in St. Lawrence County for goods or services, some of that sales tax money goes back to local governments.
We certainly can’t buy everything we need within our county, but if you have a local option, consider this before purchasing online.
If you live in Potsdam, a great way to keep dollars local is to consider Potsdam Chamber of Commerce gift certificates this holiday season (they are available year-round).
This past year, $50,000 worth of gift certificates were redeemed by chamber member businesses and that is all money kept in our town’s economy. Over 100 businesses, big and small, participate in the program run by the Chamber.
Certificates can be purchased at the Potsdam Chamber Office as well as the Potsdam offices of North Country Savings Bank, Community Bank, NBT Bank, Key Bank, and Adirondack FCU.
