Aaron Todd, a Canton native, was recently selected as St. Lawrence University’s new assistant director of athletics for communications and marketing.

Todd will replace Wally Johnson, who will retire May 31 after a four-decade career as the university’s sports information director.

Todd is a former St. Lawrence athlete who began his career as a part-time sportswriter for the Watertown Daily Times and served as a graduate assistant in the sports information office at St. Lawrence.

“We are very happy that Aaron Todd has agreed to return to St. Lawrence and supervise what has been a strong sports information program. We are confident that Aaron will continue to grow the various aspects of our coverages and that he will help us build a strong athletic marketing program,” said Saint Athletic Director Bob Durocher.

Todd, who ran cross-country and track at St. Lawrence and earned his bachelor’s degree in 2000 and his master’s degree in 2006, was most recently the managing editor for Information Technology Systems/Casino City/GPWA. He started his career with the firm as a gaming industry reporter in 2006 and was named senior editor in 2010.

He worked in sports information at St. Lawrence from 2001 to 2003, and served as interim assistant sports information director after starting as a graduate assistant.

He also worked as sports information director at Bates College and was host of the 2004 NCAA Division III Men’s Tennis Championships.

He worked as sports information director at Merrimack College in 2005.

He served as communications and marketing manager for the Brown University Sports Foundation from 2007 to 2010. He has worked as a sports information volunteer at Babson College for the past year.

Todd will oversee the coverage of St. Lawrence’s 32-sport athletic program and will also oversee the university’s athletic marketing program.

He will be joined on the Saint sports information staff by assistants Kelly Vergin and Beth Spadaccini.
