The St Lawrence County Snowmobile Association is offering the New York State Young Operator Snowmobile Safety Course for free in Potsdam Nov. 17, Heuvelton Nov. 26 and 27, and Colton Jan. 26.
This course provides fundamental information which all snowmobilers should possess in order to ensure the safety of riders and other trail users. Successful completion of this course results in the award of a NYS Snowmobile Safety Certificate. Courses are taught by experienced snowmobilers who volunteer their time to make the sport safer and more enjoyable for everyone.
The safety courses are offered to youths age 10 thru 17.
Dates and locations are:
• Saturday, Nov. 17, 8:45 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., Potsdam Rescue Squad Community Room, 38 Main St, Potsdam. Lunch is provided by Canton Potsdam Hospital Trauma Services. Must pre-register by call at 315-244-0886 or email SnowmobileSafeNY@gmail.com. Instructor is Heather Cowen-Wilson.
• Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 26 and 27, 5 p.m., Oswegatchie Town Hall, 51 State St., Heuvelton presented by. Punchlock Travellers. Must attend two nights and pre-register by calling Instructors Greg Sloan at 315-344-7370 or Elwyn Couglar at 315-344-1220.
• Saturday, Jan. 26 at 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Colton-Pierrepont School, presented by Colton SnoSkippers during Colton Winterfest Weekend. Lunch is provided. Anyone who wants to attend call 315-212-0070. Instructor Danny Collins.
