OGDENSBURG -- Carnival rides will return to the 59th Ogdensburg Seaway Festival July 23 to 31, which will also include races, live music, food, a fishing derby, a parade and fireworks.
“It’s cool because we’ve never had them (rides) here when it’s been the parade,” event coordinator Laurel Roethel said. “That’s pretty huge, having Amusements of America.”
She said that will include kids and adult games along with the rides.
There will be some free kids’ events -- a July 23 fishing derby at the Greenbelt docks and firefighters’ games hosted by the city fire department union afterward.
She said admission to the tournament is free and there will be free hot dogs and soda for the kids.
“The festival supplies the bait and prizes,” Roethel said. “We usually have several bicycles to give away.”
She said the prizes include “Most Unusual Thing Caught.”
“One year we had a kid catch a shoe,” she said.
After that, the fire department hosts old-fashioned games including three-leg and sack races, which also includes free food for the kids.
On July 23, there will be a Family Feud with Wimpy’s serving food. Admission is $1 with a $250 grand prize. It will be upstairs in Lockwood Arena at 2 p.m. coinciding with the vendor and craft fair.
Roethel also highlighted the golf challenges July 24 at Trafalgar Park, hosted by the Ogdensburg Lions Club.
“It’s on the west side of the Oswegatchie … and people golf over the river and hope to land in a hole on the east side,” Roethel said, adding that there are prizes in age divisions.
This year’s parade them is “There’s No Place Like Home.”
“We hope everybody comes out and participates in the events and has a very nice hometown experience,” Roethel said.
