NYPA Summer Spectacular car show, ice cream social, fireworks slated for July 24

MASSENA – Join the New York Power Authority (NYPA) at its first Summer Spectacular on Saturday, July 24 at the Frank S. McCullough, Jr. Hawkins Point Visitors Center.

The day’s activities will include displays of classic cars and trucks, an Energy Fair, an evening Ice Cream Social along the banks of the St. Lawrence River, followed by a dazzling fireworks display at dusk.

The Antique Truck Club of America and the Massena Olde Car Club will display vehicles at the visitors center from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Truck owners will be available to answer questions and provide information about their vehicles.

The first 100 cars and trucks at the event will receive commemorative dashboard plaques. In addition to the antiques, get a glimpse of the future as NYPA exhibits several of its hybrid and electric vehicles.

Throughout the day, the radio station, New Mix 96.1, will provide a DJ, playing a variety of classic and contemporary music from the 1950s through today, and an Energy Fair featuring local vendors offering information and products promoting energy efficiency.

Attendees are also invited to visit NYPA’s admission-free visitors center, featuring a wide range of interactive exhibits on subjects such as water power and the St. Lawrence-FDR Project, basics of electricity and uses of electricity. The visitor’s center is currently operating on its summer schedule and is open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.

At 6 p.m., guests will be treated to free ice cream sundaes while enjoying views of the St. Lawrence- FDR Power Project. The ice cream is courtesy of Price Chopper and the Massena Winter Carnival Committee. All events are free of charge.

The highlight of the Summer Spectacular will take place at dusk, with a fireworks extravaganza hosted by the New York Power Authority and presented by Majestic Fireworks of Utica.
