MASSENA – The Friends of the Nature Center at Robert Moses State Park hold their annual “Fall Clean-Up & Alcoa Action Grant Day” Saturday, Oct. 15.

The event will take place at the trail head, just off the parking lot where the previous Nature Center was.

The event will take place rain or shine, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.

In past years, between 25 and 100 participants have attended and made this a very successful event.

If the required number of Alcoa employees come to volunteer for four hours each, the nature center will be eligible for a much-needed $3,000 Action Grant.

All other participants may stay as long as they wish.

Due to the devastating March 2010 fire that permanently closed the doors of the Nature Center, all garden and trail equipment was lost.

Participants are asked to bring rakes, work gloves, large push brooms, pruners, wheel barrels and any equipment that might need to be used.

It is important to label equipment in some way, in case it is left behind.

Volunteers are also needed to provide refreshments and snacks for participants. Supporters are asked to contact 705-5022 or ncrebirth@yahoo.com if they have questions or wish to pre-register.
