NORWOOD – The Joanne’s Gift of Love 2nd Annual Basketball Tournament will be held Saturday, Jan. 19 at Norwood-Norfolk Central School.
The basketball tournament between Norwood-Norfolk and Potsdam Central Schools basketball teams will raise money for the Gift of Love foundation, which was established in memory of the late Joanne Bigwarfe.
Bigwarfe, a former Norwood-Norfolk Elementary principal, was diagnosed with osteosarcoma and lost her fight only three months later, at the age of 43. She was a dedicated mom, wife, teacher, sports enthusiast, and community supporter, said a press release from the foundation.
Gift of Love foundation provides scholarships to two students at Norwood-Norfolk and Potsdam Central schools each year.
The foundation provides care bags for patients undergoing issues related to cancer and provides gift cards for travel and lodging.
Gift of Love has also supported other community organizations, including donating to Hospice, The Neighborhood Center and local food pantries; and sponsoring a child for 4-H.
Students from 4th through 12th grade will participate in the tournament.
The first game will begin at 8 a.m. and go through the day with the last game ending at 8 p.m.
A concession stand, raffle table, t-shirt sales, and 50/50 will be set up during the event.
