POTSDAM -- The St. Lawrence County Arts Council is offering a series of classes on Shibori, a Japanese method of dying cloth with a pattern.
Fiber artist Sasha Lehnen Spencer is the instructor. Classes will take place July 24, 25 and 31 and Aug. 1 from 1 to 4 p.m.
Spencer will cover bound-resist dying, traditional symbolic patterns, design layout and color theory for fiber reactive dyes. Students will practice hands-on basics of multi-color dying, then combine different binding and dying techniques on a piece of clothing or fabric.
Students will create their own unique hand-dyed garment or larger piece of cloth. Cost is $90 plus an $8 materials fee. To register call 265-6860 or visit www.slcartscouncil.org.
