POTSDAM – The St. Lawrence County Arts Council offers a series of classes called “Arts Around the World” where young artists explore various world cultures through arts projects.
All classes are held at Downtown Snell Hall in Potsdam.
Contact the council to register and pre-pay for classes at 265-6860 or www.slcartscouncil.org.
• Arts Around the World: Canadan Inukshuk Stone Sculpture with Kris Rozelle - Saturday, Oct. 1, 1:30-3 p.m. Ages 6-12. An Inukshuk is a small pile of stones arranged in the likeness of a person. The Inuit people used them as trail markers, indicating safe passage. Our stones are actually made of Styrofoam and are very light weight. $12 + $4 materials fee.
• Arts Around the World: Colored Pencil Spanish Repousse with Kris Rozelle - Saturday, Oct. 15, 1:30-3 p.m. Ages 6-12. This project puts a twist on colored pencil drawing, combining drawing and metal tooling. The results are a spectacular effect that looks metal tooling, inlay, or stained glass. $12 + $4 materials fee.
• Arts Around the World: African Masks with Kris Rozelle - Saturday, Oct. 29, 1:30-3 p.m. Ages 6-12. African masks are not just pieces of decorative wood, but symbols with an important role in the life of the village. Students will create a beautiful mask of their own using various materials in the classroom. $12 + $4 materials fee.
