MASSENA -- The ninth Harvest Festival returns Oct. 15 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a haunted house, vendors, live music, food and a haunted walk.

Last year a haunted theater made its debut at the festival, but this year LaShomb was not sure if it would return again.

“The Department of Labor wanted to shut us down,” he said.

LaShomb said he was notified that in order to have a haunted house, a permit is needed. An application for the permit was been submitted.

“The Department of Labor gave us the go ahead,” he said.

The haunted house will be held on the events side of the chamber office. There will be a $2 fee and there will be kid’s friendly and a young adult version.

Proceeds from the haunted house go toward a new roof for the building, LaShomb said.

More than 30 vendors are expected along with foods including hot dogs and fried offerings.

Crafts, pumpkin painting, Cubby the Clown and Candy Land on the street are all geared toward entertaining children.

The farmer’s market will move from its usual location to the festival for the day.

Any chamber business can set up a booth for free at the event and all are welcome to do so, LaShomb said.

Jam band Atom Ghost is set to perform.

“The festival is a way to highlight downtown businesses for the community,” he said.
