North Woods Outfitters in Potsdam closing its doors

POTSDAM -- North Woods Outfitters, 1890 Morley-Potsdam Rd., will permanently close its doors at the end of the month.

The business operated for 24 years, having opened in the spring of 1994 by Rick and Roxanne Jones.

They sold guns, ammunition, hunting clothes, black powder, fishing supplies and more.

The store is having a clearance sale until it closes.

Owner Rick Jones says he is ready to retire.

North Woods Outfitters was known as one of the largest archery dealers in the region. The business was the place to sign up for fishing derbies, rabbit hunts and also offered bowhunting courses for 15 years. They also participated in gun raffles through the Elks and Sylvan Falls Clubs.

“Throughout our many years in business they have formed many friendships through their customers from all around the North Country,” Jones said in a prepared statement.

He said they will “miss all the wonderful people who have been loyal customers for all these years.”

Jones offered a “special thank you” to the Tupper Lake Archery Association and Norfolk Rod and Gun Club for all their years doing business with him.

Anyone with gift certificates is asked to use them by Sept. 30.
