A mock DWI crash was held at Massena Central High School on Wednesday.
This event is sponsored by the St. Lawrence County Stop DWI program.
“If you haven't seen it before, it is exactly what it sounds like,” said High School Principal, Alan Oliver.
A mock crash with one or two vehicles is set up in front of the high school and police and fire will respond and treat it like a real scene.
Oliver said there are student actors involved as well as simulated injuries and a simulated fatality. During the event, there is a live narration of what is going on by the Massena Police Department and Massena Fire Department.
“We understand that this event may be triggering for staff and students alike,” he said. “Counselors will be on hand to work with anyone needing some support.”
The event is held every two years to ensure every student gets a chance to witness it during their time at MCHS.
“It is shocking to see but that is the point. If we can encourage even one student to refrain from distracted or impaired driving it is worth doing,” Oliver said.
