To the Editor:

Neighbors, do you remember the Ice Storm of ‘98? Do you remember how our community collaborated, draining pipes, installing generators, sharing wood, or housing those in need? We need to work together again to avoid another disaster. We have a choice:

1. Democracy or Dictatorship? Donald promised to be Dictator Day One, to suspend the Constitution, control news media, use military against our citizens, and jail his personal opponents. Like Putin and Hitler. John Kelly, former chief of staff, says Trump is a fascist who wants generals like Hitler’s who will obey him instead of the Constitution.  Do you want a dictator?

2. Economy. Donald’s tariffs will increase the average family’s yearly costs by $4000 and his plans increase inflation by giving tax breaks to millionaires (WSJournal). Kamala wants to cut taxes for workers, assist families with children, and support first home buyers, by making millionaires pay their fair share. Which improves our lives? 
3. Women’s Health Care/Abortion. Donald is proud of killing Roe v. Wade and will eliminate all abortions (2025). Kamala respects women’s right to make decisions according to our own religious beliefs, decisions that serve our medical and family needs, including the right to a safe abortion. Women died this year in states where doctors feared going to jail for intervening in pregnancies gone awry. Is this the world we want? 

1. Immigration. Fact: Immigrants are less likely to commit crimes than are US citizens. In order to provoke hate and division, Donald lies that other counties empty jails to send us criminals. Solutions? Kamala will sign the bipartisan immigration bill designed by Republicans and Democrats. Trump blocked this bill to keep immigration as an issue. He plans to use violence, to put immigrants in concentration camps and deport millions. He says they are “poisoning our blood.” Sounds like Hitler? And in our farming community in the North Country, have you noticed what jobs hard-working immigrants are doing on dairy farms? Would you really want those jobs?  

Let’s come together again, as we did in the Ice Storm. Which candidate supports Democracy, health care, a fairer tax system, combating global warming and working for justice here and abroad? Kamala Harris. If you disagree,  please check diverse sources that use facts, not lies and insults. Listen to Trump’s former advisors, who know him best.
