POTSDAM — The village is seeking ideas and input from the public regarding its recreation program and have set up an online survey to hear from local residents and those that participate in recreation programs or the use the facilities at Pine Street on the issue.
“The Village of Potsdam is conducting a Community Recreation Survey to gather feedback from residents on local recreation programs, parks, and facilities. Your thoughts will help shape future improvements and guide recreation planning in our community,” says a post on the village website.
The survey, accessible at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/TYPTS6Z , asks a variety of questions.
Some of the inquiries include: which recreation or outreach programs have you participated in, how satisfied are you with the village recreation programs, what do you enjoy most, what barriers do you have to participate, how easy is it for you to access the families and how do you rank the quality of the facilities.
The questionnaire also asks survey takers to list some suggested improvements to Pine Street Arena and Sandstoner Park. And, it asks for those taking the survey to rank their top priorities for future improvements planned at Sandstoner Park, which include a meeting or gathering place, locker room improvements, enhanced playground, golf simulator, fitness facility, community pool, splash pad, or walking track among others.
The survey closes Friday, Oct. 24.
The village is also reaching out to the public in regards to its recreation program in other ways. Recently, the municipality has set a signup sheet for a recreation contact list so that village residents can stay connected about everything from hockey and figure skating at Pine Street Arena to what’s happening on the playground and the pickleball courts in Sandstoner Park. To access that form, visit https://forms.gle/S8axTLVoLj9TZcm47 and sign up for ongoing updates.
Both initiatives are in keeping with an overhaul of the village’s recreation program over the course of the last year. Notable changes have included hiring a new recreation director, summer rec leader, and aquatics director; a remodel of the arena snack bar; establishment of a new usage policy for the village’s pickle ball courts, enhancements of the playground equipment and brand new themed summer recreation camp program.
The village is also on the cusp of a major rehab project of its recreation facilities on Pine Street, with preliminary planning underway.
