Trump cuts only benefit rich, Potsdam woman says

To the Editor:

The Covid pandemic brought shortages and high inflation to economies around the world, including the US economy.  Joe Biden, through skills honed during decades of public service, worked with Congress to stem the tide of inflation faster than any other country in the world. And the policies enacted got there without triggering a recession.

During his campaign, Trump lied about our strong economy and said it was in a bad way. Now Trump and the Republicans who support him are turning  what was a strong economy into rubble through massive cuts. And why is he cutting government? The most direct cause is that he needs to find 4 TRILLION to fund a tax cut for the rich.

Republicans are backing a plan that cuts food for children (SNAP and USAID), cuts care for the elderly (Medicare and Medicaid), cuts care for our military veterans (VA), and cuts medical research, leaving people in medical trials high and dry, some of them with experimental devices embedded in their bodies that they now have no support for (NIHS). That’s just a partial list.

In the meantime, we are spending millions on security so Trump can play golf and go to the Super Bowl. And who’s his helper in these cuts? The guy who had 277 million in spare change to donate to Trump’s campaign, who joked about his Twitter losses that the way to have a small fortune is to start with a large one, and who holds no elected position but presides over DOGE, which has already spent millions and run far over anticipated costs.

4 Trillion is a lot of money, and the Republicans are literally slashing support for pregnant women, babies, the elderly, and veterans to raise it. For what? So the rich can pay fewer taxes. Don’t like that? Call your congressional and state representatives, write letters, and get out and picket. Republicans need to know we see what they are doing and we don’t like it.
