After a stretch of unsettled weather, conditions will improve briefly in St. Lawrence County today with much drier air, low humidity, and breezy winds, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).
However, forecasters say residents should prepare for a return of wet conditions this weekend, as the next weather system moves in bringing widespread rain and continued unsettled weather into early next week.
Skies will turn mostly sunny today with highs reaching near 51 degrees, the service says . Winds 10 to 13 mph will help keep conditions dry and cool.
Clear skies continue overnight with temperatures dropping to around 30 degrees, NWS says. Winds will be about 6 mph.
The extended forecast is as follows:
Friday
Clouds will build throughout the day Friday, with showers likely by late afternoon. Temperatures will climb to a warmer 62 degrees. Rain chances increase to 60%, though less than a tenth of an inch of precipitation is expected during the day.
Weekend Weather
The chance of rain continues into Friday night and through much of Saturday. Showers are likely before 9 p.m. Friday and again before 2 p.m. Saturday. Winds will pick up Saturday, with gusts as high as 28 mph and highs near 67. Rainfall totals through the weekend could range between a tenth and a quarter of an inch.
Saturday night sees only a slight chance of lingering showers before skies begin to clear. Sunday will bring a return to cooler and mostly sunny conditions, with a high near 52.
Next Week
Another system is expected to arrive early next week. Monday will be partly sunny with a chance of showers, becoming more likely Monday night. Rain chances taper off slightly by Tuesday, but scattered showers remain in the forecast through midweek.
