CANTON— Despite Taylor Park beach being closed for swimming, Canton residents can expect to enjoy a full slate of other recreational activities this summer.
The Recreation Department, under the leadership of Meghan Richardson, has announced its full summer recreation schedule, which will include swimming at the Canton Central School pool, tennis, day hikes, karate, lacrosse, the “Let’s Play Canton” program, and more.
Village officials lauded Richardson’s quick action to offer quality replacement programs in light of the Taylor Park beach being closed for swimming.
The Recreation Department announced this spring that the beach would be entirely closed for swimming due to storm damage, logs, and debris in the water.
Deputy Mayor Anna Sorenson noted that the recreation schedule is “chock full” of activities and has become noticeably more robust in recent years.
Village Mayor Dalton agreed that Richardson has made “a lot of good changes” to the program.
Residents can visit the Canton Recreation Facebook page or the Recreation section of Canton’s municipal website for a full schedule of programs and for updates.
Featured programs include:
An enhanced tennis program, including a new junior and adult class for participants at least 10 years of age, unlike the annual youth clinic.
