MASSENA -- Steven J. Levac, 73, passed away unexpectedly on April 28, 2025, at Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital in Plattsburgh, New York.
Born on January 28, 1952, in Massena, NY, Steven was the son of the late Joseph and Ritha (Deruchia) Levac.
He grew up in Massena, where he developed a deep love for his community and the outdoors.
Known to many as "Lik," Steven was first married to Penny Hall, with whom he raised three children.
Later in life, he married Michele M. Scully in a beautiful ceremony at Veterans Memorial Park in Massena, officiated by Justice James Crandall.
Throughout his life, Steve was known for his hardworking nature and his pride in his ventures.
He worked at Alcoa and BJ’s Wholesale Club before following his passion and opening Northern Harness Bait and Tackle as well as a vegetable stand—two businesses he took great pride in.
His love for the outdoors was evident in both his work and hobbies; he enjoyed spending time in his tackle shop, cultivating his gardens, and going hunting and fishing whenever he could.
Steve’s greatest joy was his family.
He is survived by his loving wife, Michele M. Scully; his children, Lisa Sorensen and her companion, Harold Thompson, of Massena; Michelle Morin of North Carolina; and Brett Levac and his wife, Tina, of Ottawa, Ontario. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Matthew Levac, George Sloan, Hannah Sorensen, Megan Mitchell, Corey Morin, Jasmine Park, Malcolm Morin, Jaden Morin, and Markus Levac; his great-grandchildren, Amberly Levac, Carter and Cameron Sloan, and Wesley Morin; his sister, Carol and Angelo Testa of Syracuse; his brother, Dennis Levac of Chase Mills; his father and mother-in-law, Robert and Mary Scully; his sister-in-law, Lori Pryce and her companion, Tracy Martin; as well as many nieces and nephews on the Levac side, who were very near and dear to his heart.
He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Ritha Levac; his sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Bud Grant; his brothers, John and Scott Levac; his sister-in-law, Gloria Newcombe Levac; and a nephew, Dennis B. Levac.
Steve’s memory will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He was a man of warmth, humor, and generosity whose spirit will live on through the many lives he touched.
Arrangements are under the care and guidance of the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, where services will be held privately.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2025, from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at the J.C.’s River Run Bar & Grill in Waddington, NY (formerly known as the Waddington Bowling Alley).
All family and friends are invited to join and share stories of Steve.
Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to a charity of one's choice or to St. Mary's Church, Massena.
Friends and family may share memories and offer condolences online at www.donaldsonfh.com.
