OGDENSBURG — A dozen figure skaters from the Ogdensburg Figure Skating Club competed at this year’s Empire State Games in Lake Placid.
Skaters ranged in age from 5th grade to freshman in college and represented several local schools and are coached by Lisa Cardinal, Lauren Morley and Hillary Skelly.
All of the skaters competed individually, while some also took to the ice under the direction of Lisa Cardinal and her synchronized skating programs.
Tinley Charlton and Sophie Nugent both took home bronze medals for their performance with the Ice Angels. Eight skaters competed with the Rainbow Connection earning 4th place: Emma Barr, Madalynn Costello, Averie Farrand, Kyra McCarthy, Madison Miller, Brynn Morley, Marina Perry and Ella Ramsdell.
Individual competitors and their placement included: Emma Barr 5th, Tinley Charlton 5th, Madalynn Costello 2nd, Averie Farrand 3rd, Bella McCarthy 2nd, Kyra McCarthy 5th, Madison Miller 2nd, Brynn Morley 3rd, Sophie Nugent 5th, Marina Perry 1st, Ella Ramsdell 2nd, and Kayden Skelly 5th.
“The club is extremely proud of the skaters and how well they represented the North Country. There are always lessons to be learned both on and off the ice when going to competitions and this year was no different; skaters all held their heads high demonstrating their athleticism, perseverance and love for the sport throughout the weekend,” said coach Lauren Morley.
