MASSENA -- The St. Lawrence County Chamber will host SpringFest over eight days, running from April 20-27.
Chamber officials Laura Pearson and Tiffani Amo were on hand for a recent Massena Town Board meeting, breaking down the list of events for board members and attendees.
According to Pearson, conversations have been had with Cathy Moore of Liberty Utilities to start the event, which she said will be similar to Winter Fest in Canton.
Chamber officials said they felt holding the event around Easter would lead to great turnout.
Efforts began with outreach to area businesses to inquire about potential events during the week, in hopes of tying in activities and events for the whole family, Pearson said.
She said chamber officials hoped to see events like "sip and paint" or children's events at the Massena Public Library during the week of SpringFest.
“Not everybody gets to travel during Easter, so we’re trying to bring more and more awareness to people who need to do stuff that week,” Pearson said.
She said it was with that in mind that officials began the planning stages months ago.
Amy said the chamber had also sent out letters and mailers to area businesses to encourage them to host events, offer sales or special promotions during SpringFest to bring in clientele and deliver more foot traffic to the downtown area.
Other ideas included sponsorships of raffle prizes and special promotions, she said.
The SpringFest effort will piggyback a recent KIDS Expo in Canton, which chamber officials said was a resounding success with over 1,000 people in attendance.
In total, 42 vendors participated in the event, Pearson said.
