NORWOOD – It is with heavy hearts to inform you that our mother, Shirley Cole LaRue, 87, peacefully passed away on October 28, 2024, at her home with family at her side.
Born on July 12, 1937, to the late Arthur and Krystal Ash Cole Sr. in Ellenburg, NY, Shirley graduated from St. Lawrence Central School, Class of 1955.
She married Theron G. LaRue on November 10, 1956, in Hogansburg, NY.
Shirley is survived by her five children, Brenda (Bruce) Jenkins, Winthrop, Donna James, Norwood, Mike (Linda) LaRue, Norwood, Alice Osoway, Norwood and Peter LaRue and Renee Hassett, Norwood. Shirley is also survived by her beloved eight grandchildren, Jared, Jennifer, Mallory, Aimee, Amanda, Ashley, Austin and Levi; five great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; a sister, Dayna Cole, West Stockholm and a special niece, Gretchen Ashley.
Shirley was pre-deceased by her parents, her husband of 62 years, Theron and her siblings, Ruth Cole Spoor, Audrey Cole White Toth, Ronald Cole, Arthur Cole Jr. and Herman Cole.
Shirley began work at the Norwood Elementary School as a playground aide and also worked in the math program, office and many other areas.
She was a boy scout and girl scout leader and also taught church school.
Shirley was a faithful member of the Norwood United Methodist Church and was involved with many activities of the church.
Memorial services for Shirley will be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at 11 a.m. at the Norwood United Methodist Church on Prospect Street.
