POTSDAM -- Clarkson University Science Cafés continue tonight, March 12, with "Stem Cells: A Historical Perspective and Future in Healthcare."
Stem cells have emerged as a cornerstone of biomedical research, offering groundbreaking potential for the treatment of a wide range of diseases and injuries.
Bethany Almeida, assistant professor of chemical and biochemical engineering at Clarkson University, will explore the historical evolution of stem cell research, from early discoveries in regenerative medicine to the pivotal breakthroughs in stem cell biology during her talk titled “Stem Cells: A Historical Perspective and Future in Healthcare” on March 12 at 7:15 p.m.
Almeida will examine key milestones, such as the identification of stem cells in the 20th century, the advent of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), and the ethical considerations that have shaped the field.
Additionally, Almeida will delve into the transformative possibilities stem cells hold for the future of healthcare; by reflecting on past advancements and current challenges, we aim to provide a comprehensive overview of stem cells' potential to revolutionize medical practices and improve patient outcomes in the decades to come.
Science Cafés are held in Potsdam in the Potsdam Civic Center Community Room at 2 Park Street at 7:15 p.m.
