PIERREPONT -- Roger Lee Woodard, 75, of County Rte 24 died February 18, 2025, at Canton-Potsdam Hospital with heart and kidney related issues.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 27, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Lawrence Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 21 Park Street, Canton.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Heart Association or to the Kidney Foundation.
Roger was born a son to Ambrose A. and Lucy (Derosia) Woodard on May 20, 1949, in Potsdam, NY. He attended Pierrepont area schools.
Roger will be fondly remembered as the Zamboni Operator and ice technician for St. Lawrence University, retiring in 2011. After retiring he was brought on to assist and train the staff at SUNY Canton in regards to their hockey rink and zamboni. During the ice-storm of 1998, Roger stayed on campus to manage Appleton Arena facility for the National Guard and others.
On August 22, 2012, he married Laura Johnson Newton at her sister’s home in Crary Mills.
Surviving are his wife, Laura Newton; a step-daughter, Laura Jean Newton; a step-son, Gerald V. Newton; a brother, Johnny; and three sisters, Pauline, Susan, and Linda.
Roger enjoyed fishing and being in the outdoors.
He was an avid viewer of Westerns, especially those with actor John Wayne and listening to “Real” country music was a necessity.
