RENSSELAER FALLS—The Rensselaer Falls Volunteer Fire Department will celebrate its 100th anniversary this weekend with a parade, live music, and a chicken barbecue.
Beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday June 14, the festivities will kick off with the village’s first responder parade. At 12 p.m., bands will begin playing in Pioneer Park.
On Sunday, June 15, the fire department will host a chicken barbecue at 12 p.m. Advance ordering for the barbecue will begin Thursday, June 12.
Village Mayor Michael Hammond has requested that part of Rensselaer Street be closed to traffic in order to make space for the weekend’s activities. The closure will be effective Saturday June 14 and Sunday June 15, and will allow a pedestrian area between Congress and State streets in the village.
The street closure will also allow space for two food trucks to set up and provide a staging area for the parade.
The fire department will work closely with village officials, local law enforcement, and emergency services to ensure traffic control, pedestrian safety, and public notification of the events and road closure
