Raymond D. Randall, 67, Potsdam

POTSDAM -- Raymond D. Randall, age 67, of Potsdam, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, April 24, 2025.

Raymond was born on March 31, 1958, son of the late Elmer and Wavabelle (Moody) Randall. He graduated from Parishville Hopkinton School and completed the welding course at BOCES. Raymond married Susan LaShomb in 1982 which ended in divorce in 1995.


He worked at the family business, Elmer Randall Trucking for several years, Vivlamore’s Plumbing, Tree Preservation Co., Potsdam Paper Mills. He then started at the Village of Potsdam DPW in 1986 as a Snow Plow Driver and Heavy Equipment Operator and retired in 2016.


Raymond was an avid fisherman and hunter. He fulfilled his lifelong dream of becoming a pilot, taught by Kurt Thomas, a good friend and mentor. He enjoyed carpentry, building his own home and assisting with the building of both his children’s homes.

He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed four wheeling, building trails on his land, especially for the grandchildren, planting trees, grapevines and gardens. He was an active member of the Elks Lodge since 1983, which turned into a lifelong membership with lifelong friends.


He is survived by his daughter, Auburn Randall and her significant other Nicholas Burkum and his son and daughter-in-law Adam and Natalie Randall; six grandchildren, Lincoln Gravelle, Sterling Gravelle, Stella Gravelle, Theodore Burkum, Kayne Randall and Troy Randall, along with bonus grandchildren Payton Burkum, Cole Burkum and Finnick Burkum. He is also survived by his siblings, Robina and Robert Conklin, Beverly Randall, Sharon and Ernest Scovil, Joseph Randall, Timothy and Charlene Randall, Vanessa and Larry Oakes, Anne Randall, and several nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his parents, Elmer and Wavabelle Randall, brothers Eugene Randall and Norman Randall, and sister Hazel Mitchell.


Calling hours will be held at Garner Funeral Home, 10 Lawrence Ave., Potsdam, on Thursday, May 1, 2025, 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. with a service immediately following at 4:00 p.m.
