Rallies at Ogdensburg, Gouverneur prisons

Correctional officers, retirees, family members and supporters joined in a rally outside of Riverview Correctional Facility in Ogdensburg, which was met with support from some state and county representatives. Similar rallies were being held in Gouverneur, Malone and more than a dozen other prisons across the state. See story here. Since then, Gov. Kathy Hochul says she is preparing to deploy the New York National Guard to protect the ‘safety of correctional officers, DOCCS population and upstate communities.’ But corrections officers across the state are saying that protecting their safety is what the state has failed to do in recent years.
