Raising money for California trip

A dozen figure skaters from the Potsdam Figure Skating Club and Norfolk-Norwood Figure Skating Clubs are fundraising to attend the State Games of America located in San Diego, CA, July 17-21.

The State Games of America is a biennial Olympic-style event featuring competition between State Games medal winners from across the nation.The fundraising will help with travel/lodging costs of approximately $3,000 per skater.

These skaters are competing in individual events, including showcase, jump programs, spin programs and free skate.

The skaters are Alexis Adams, 10, Potsdam; Olivia Pelligrino, 11, Parishville; Kalyn Bullock, 10, Edwards Knox; Shea Charleson, 13, Colton; Amina Ait Maatallah, 14, Potsdam; Emmary Regan, 14, homeschooled; Dillynn Grant, 15, Potsdam; Autumn Masuk, 15, Norwood; Kate Ewy, 15, Potsdam; Saadika Dhyaniyala, 16, Potsdam, Raegan Barrett, 17, Potsdam; and Catherine Barstow, 20, Potsdam.

Most of the skaters qualified by medaling at the Empire State Games in Lake Placid in February.

Once the skaters found out that they qualified to attend the State Games.Fundraising efforts include visiting businesses, selling Krispy Kreme Donuts and chocolate bars, bottle drive, and a dinner at the Elks Lodge in Potsdam.

Upcoming fundraisers will be a spaghetti dinner at the Moose Lodge Potsdam June 14, 3-7 p.m.; Car wash at Barstow Collision June 22, -9 a.m.-1 p.m; and a co-ed softball tournament June 29-30 at North Lawrence Fields.

Follow State Games Skater Fund on Facebook for more events. If a business/person would like to donate $100 or more in either monetary or products to raffle, their name will be featured on the back of a t-shirt the skaters will wear.
