CANTON -- With the Public Safety Complex capital projected is entering the final stages, allowing Pearl Street to be reopened.
According to County Administrator Ruth Doyle, the renovation project was funded by a combination of American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds and county reserves, allowing for a renovation that will greatly enhance the 911 dispatch center.
Other offices impacted by the project include new offices for the District Attorney, the Sheriff's Civil and Detective Divisions, the Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service (RACES) and Emergency Services Administration.
"This project brings together all of county level law enforcement and is also the Canton home to the New York State Police. This renovation also includes a new Emergency Operations Center outfitted with the latest technology to support the County in future emergencies. The Public will be invited to an open house to tour the Facility prior to opening," Doyle said.

As part of the project, the county and Village of Canton partnered to temporarily close a portion of pearl street beginning February 15, 2024.
As of today, March 21, 2025, Pearl Street has been reopened for public access.
“The County would like to express tremendous gratitude to the Village of Canton for the partnership and support to temporarily close a portion of Pearl Street and the residents of Pearl Street for their patience during the Project," Doyle said.
“The County is grateful to its employees and the Public for enduring the inconvenience with parking and temporary relocation of services while this Project took place," she continued.
