Potsdam Central High School sophomore Ian VanWagner may soon break the Section X Varsity Boys Basketball record, after recently reaching 2,000 career points.

“Ian is the most driven athlete I have ever had the pleasure to coach,” said Potsdam head coach Justin Todd.

VanWagner scored his 2,000th point Jan. 20 during a game against Beekmantown.

He is now only 18 points away from breaking the Section X record of 2,042 points, held by Chateaugay’s Jonah McDonald.

“Ian’s desire to compete and get better is unmatched. He is a coach’s dream, as he is the total package, “ said Todd.

“This year what has really stood out to me is the huge step he has taken as a leader. Congratulations to Ian, he is still just getting going.”
