Patricia Ayrssian, 91, Canton

CANTON - Patricia Ayrassian, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and longtime resident of Canton NY, passed away on Thursday, March 20, 2025 at the United Helpers Maplewood Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, where she had been a resident for several years.

Surviving Mrs. Ayrassian are two sons, Carl and wife Kim of Russell, Ara Ayrassian of Santa Barbara; two daughters, Jean and husband Kurt of Mount Pleasant, SC, Karis and husband Kent of Mount Pleasant, SC; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Her husband, John Ayrassian, a grandson Joshua Ayrassian, a great-grandson Addison Anders Johnson Jr., her sister June Hastings and brother Edmond Barry predeceased her. 

Born April 21, 1933 in Ogdensburg, she is the daughter of William and Mary Barry but was raised by her maternal aunt and uncle, Jean and Herky Dishaw. 

She was married to John Ayrassian on January 10, 1953 at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Massena with the then Rev. Purcell officiating.
Mrs. Ayrassian was the office manager for Walter J. Hewko’s medical practice in Ogdensburg, NY.  She was active in her community, serving on the alter guild for Grace Episcopal Church, was a member of the Garden Club, the Eastern Star and served on the hospital guild when Canton had a hospital.

Patricia enjoyed spending time with her family at weekly dinner get-togethers, attending athletic events for grand and great grandchildren and escaping south to spend time with her daughters during winters while she was still able to travel.
