Ogdensburg Boys & Girls Club Expo returns April 5-6 with games, concessions, entertainment and exhibits

The Ogdensburg Boys and Girls Club’s largest fundraiser, the Ogdensburg Expo, is returning this year April 5 & 6.

Hours will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and noon to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, and thousands are expected to attend.

The Expo features a packed exhibit hall at the Golden Dome at 1100 State St., Ogdensburg, with concessions, carnival games, exhibits featuring automobiles, boats, crafts, and products of all kinds over the two-day event.

The money raised from the expo helps support the club’s $580,000 operating budget and programming which provides educational and recreational activities for local youth at a membership cost of only $6 a year.

No one is turned away for the inability to pay.

The club serves about 600 youth through membership and as well as other youth through community outreach.

Average daily attendance is 165 different youth per day during the peak months which is helped made possible by the support of the Ogdensburg City School District and Superintendent Kevin Kendall, as the district buses students from both elementary schools every day after school to the club.

“A lot of people who volunteer have been impacted by the club over the years,” said OBGC Executive Director Meg McNamara.

“We’ve always been blessed with volunteers.”

McNamara credits the success of the Expo to the almost 350 volunteers who lend a hand in the planning stages, which begin as early as September the previous year, and later during the event.

The director also praised the area businesses who set up vendor stands every year, those who donate prizes for the expo raffles, and the school for letting the organization use the dome for the venue.

“We are fortunate,” said the director. “It’s just a perfect venue.”
