The North Country Junior Golf Tour (NCJGT) recently concluded its summer season with its sixth and final event on August 6th. Over 35 young golfers from the region competed in three divisions (16-18, 13-15 and 12 & Under) at a handful of local courses during July and August. Following the last competition, the golfers were treated to a luncheon and prize ceremony. New NCJGT Director Chris Johnson presented event plaques in each division, golfer of the year in each division, and the overall golfer of the year. He also identified a number of critical people who made the tour successful. They deserve broader recognition.
Outgoing Director Rick Berkman continued to provide leadership and experience. He attended some of the events and guided Chris in his new role. Victory Promotions donated numerous items - plaques for the division winners at each event, backpacks for the season-long division champions, a trophy for the overall golfer of the year, NCJGT apparel for tour rookies, and a wireless speaker for every kid as an end-of-season gift. Jules Dicker was thanked for his critical organizational support to include processing registrations and scheduling all events. Gratitude was also expressed for the golf pros at the half dozen courses: Malone Golf Club’s Scott Delair, Partridge Run Golf and Country Club’s Kevin Maginn, Tupper Lake Golf Club’s Evan LaBarge, St. Lawrence University Golf Course’s Butch Benton/Maureen Taylor, The River Course at Louisville Landing’s Perry French, and Potsdam Town and Country Club’s Brian Fairchild. Appreciation was also expressed for Jamie Steinrotter, Clubhouse Manager of the Potsdam Town and Country Club, who hosted the banquet to wrap up the tour.
Thank you to Chris and all who made the NCJGT possible and commendable. The kids enjoyed themselves and became more seasoned golfers. On the scorecard of many, NCJGT aced the experience.
