POTSDAM – Isabella “Bella” May, is the newest Rochester Regional Health’s St. Lawrence team emergency medicine team member. She is working in emergency departments at Canton-Potsdam, Gouverneur and Massena hospitals.
Physician Assistant (PA) May earned her master of science in physician assistant studies at Clarkson University. During her clinical rotations, she worked with the Canton-Potsdam Hospital emergency medicine, obstetrics & gynecology, general surgery and endocrinology departments; and the Massena Hospital internal medicine department.
“Throughout my experience at Clarkson University, and especially during my clinical rotation in the Emergency Department at Canton-Potsdam Hospital, I knew this was the place to be. The patients, staff and providers made me feel welcome and valued as a team member every day. I can’t think of a better place to start my career in healthcare. I’m so happy to be here,” May said.
“Growing up in a rural suburb of Syracuse, getting my undergraduate degree in Olean, NY and spending nearly the last three years at Clarkson, represent some constant themes in my life - an appreciation for the outdoors, rural areas and the people who make up those communities. The North County is a perfect mix of where I want to live and work, yet not too far from my family and friends back home,” she added.
Emergency Medicine PA May performs physical examinations and medical screenings, orders and performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, orders medications, and establishes diagnostic decision-making.
She further orders and interprets diagnostic laboratory tests, radiological studies or various other therapies. She instructs and counsels patients regarding mental and physical health, refers them to medical specialists and provides resources.
