More than 600 protestors participated in a "No Kings" rally in Canton Saturday morning as similar events took place in Massena and more than 2,000 other locations throughout the nation.
The nationwide mobilization was aimed at protesting what organizers describe as increasing authoritarianism and political corruption associated with President Donald Trump and his allies.
The Canton event was organized by North Country Neighbors for Civic Engagement.
Participants first gathered in the 21 Miner St. parking lot at the former Mid-Town Plaza, where speakers made remarks.
Following the speeches, rallies paraded to Main Street, where they lined the sidewalks with protest signs from the Canton Municipal Building to the NBT Bank building just east of the village park.
